I certainly do not believe that I have the solution
that will ensure a sparkling future for the expansion of
pipe smoking in Italy. However, a few modest proposals might
be helpful at least to try and stop the progressive decrease
of pipe smokers. There are a few facts that cannot be argued.
Not enough work has been done to transmit information about
pipe smoking to those who do not belong to the usual circle
of pipe enthusiasts. Nor is enough being done to stop the
invasion of the italian market by more or less pre stigious
foreign pipe makes, that often are of "uncertain" origin.
There is no doubt that adequate and cooperative promotional
measures would efficiently contribute to the solution of
these problems and help increase the number of puffing pipe
smokers and, above all, Italian pipes being puffed on. A
common line of action must be studied if we want to help to
promote pipe smoking and Italian pipe makers.
